An oriental orchid with a yellow band running along the edge of each deep green leaf.
The long leaves rise in a close bunch from the root and open out to either side. The yellow runs clean along the edge and divides sharply from the green ground, which is the whole point of an orchid grown for its leaf.
The pot is black with a gold rim, finished in gold at the mouth and painted in gold on the body. In Korea a potted orchid of this kind goes to an opening, a promotion or the taking up of office.
The leaf tissue is firm and the plant takes a change of room well, so it asks little. Keep it in bright or half shade rather than direct sun, and water when the surface of the compost has dried, enough that it runs from the foot of the pot.

Promotions, new posts, formal thanks — the Korean orchid is what people send when the occasion calls for restraint. It flowers for a long time and the foliage stays neat on a desk or in a reception area.
That depends on the season and on the plant. Some go out in flower, some with the spike still rising. If it matters that it arrives in bloom, tell us before you order and we will check what we have that day.

Your message and your name, printed as you write it. Four-character Chinese phrases such as 祝 昇進 are the convention here, but English or Korean is fine — we print exactly what you type.
Until we start making it up, yes — message us on the live chat with your order number. Once the florist has started, we can no longer change it.
A Korean cymbidium marked as though a band of gold had been laid along the leaf tips. The leaf tissue is firm and the variety stands changes of environment well, so it is one of the easier ones to keep. Set it in bright shade or partial shade rather than direct sun, and water until it runs from the bottom of the pot once the surface soil has dried. Planted in a plain pot without openwork, which gives a tidier impression than the pierced version.
A cymbidium in a ceramic pot is the traditional Korean gift for a promotion, a retirement, a new office or a formal congratulation. It is understood as the dignified choice — restrained rather than showy — and it is usually placed where visitors will see it.
A ribbon carrying your name and the occasion phrase is attached to the pot, so please write the sender name exactly as you want it read.
