A pale pink Phalaenopsis, planted in generous numbers in a rounded pot.
The spikes reach out to either side, so the plant is broad rather than tall, with green leaves filling in below. The pot is a deep brown with a grain running through it, and the soft colour of the flowers reads all the brighter against it. Once open, the flowers hold for a month or two, often longer.
In Korea a Phalaenopsis is the usual thing to send when someone opens a business, is promoted or takes up a new post. It is set out where callers will see it, and it stays in flower long after the day itself.
Water about every ten to fourteen days, once the surface of the compost has gone quite dry, pouring at the roots. Keep water off the petals; it leaves brown marks. The plant is tender, so in winter hold the room above fifteen degrees and keep it clear of a draughty window.

Looking after it
- Light Bright indoors, out of direct sun.
- Water When the moss or bark is dry through, water thoroughly and let it drain.
- Air Somewhere the air moves. Roots suffer in a closed corner.
- Temperature Happiest between 18 and 25°C. Keep it above 10°C in winter.
- After flowering Cut the spent spike away and keep the plant for its leaves.
