White Phalaenopsis in a tall cylinder, carried cleanly upward.
Phalaenopsis is the standard gift in Korea for a shop opening or a new post. The pot stands high, so even on the floor or a low table the flowers come near eye level. Green trailing material hangs down from the base. The pot is a white cylinder.
The flowers last a month or two, often longer. Water about every ten to fourteen days, once the surface of the compost has gone quite dry, at the roots rather than the flowers — water on the petals leaves brown marks.
It takes the cold poorly. Keep the room above 15°C in winter and away from a window where cold air comes straight in.

Looking after it
- Light Bright indoors, out of direct sun.
- Water When the moss or bark is dry through, water thoroughly and let it drain.
- Air Somewhere the air moves. Roots suffer in a closed corner.
- Temperature Happiest between 18 and 25°C. Keep it above 10°C in winter.
- After flowering Cut the spent spike away and keep the plant for its leaves.
