A deep purple Phalaenopsis gathered into a round pot.
Phalaenopsis is the usual Korean gift for an opening or a new post. Dark vertical veining runs through the petals, which makes the colour look deeper still. Green leaves and white material are set in below for contrast. The pot is white ceramic.
The flowers last a month or two, often longer. Water about every ten to fourteen days, once the surface of the compost has gone quite dry, at the roots rather than the flowers — water on the petals leaves brown marks.
It takes the cold poorly. Keep the room above 15°C in winter and away from a window where cold air comes straight in.

Looking after it
- Light Bright indoors, out of direct sun.
- Water When the moss or bark is dry through, water thoroughly and let it drain.
- Air Somewhere the air moves. Roots suffer in a closed corner.
- Temperature Happiest between 18 and 25°C. Keep it above 10°C in winter.
- After flowering Cut the spent spike away and keep the plant for its leaves.
