Straight canes stand together like bamboo, with leaves rising thickly above them.

Press a finger into the compost to a knuckle's depth. If it comes away crumbly and dry, it is time to water; once or twice a week is the usual rhythm. Empty any water that collects in the saucer.

It comes from the subtropics and is quick to feel the cold. Below 13°C it can take real damage, so keep it back from the window rather than beside it.

In Korea this is the kind of plant sent to congratulate an opening, left standing in the shop or office for years rather than months.

Looking after it

Light Bright indoors, out of direct sun. Scorched leaves do not grow back.
Water When the top of the soil is dry, water until it runs out of the bottom. Little and often does more harm than good.
Air Somewhere the air moves. Roots suffer in a closed corner.
Winter Keep it above 10°C and out of the path of a heater.
Leaves Wipe the dust off now and then. Clean leaves breathe.

Questions people ask

A plant or a wreath for an opening?

A wreath stands outside on the day and announces the opening to everyone passing. A plant stays in the shop afterwards. Many people send a wreath for the day and a plant for the years after.

What size should I choose?

Decide where it will stand first. We have floor plants for a corner and smaller pots for a counter. Tell us the spot and we will suggest the size.

Will I know it arrived?

We send you a photograph once it is in place. Ask when you order if you want the room in the shot.

Can I change or cancel the order?

Until we start making it up, yes — message us on the live chat with your order number and we will change or cancel it and refund you in full. Once the florist has started, we can no longer change it.

Lucky Bamboo A

Straight bamboo-like canes stand in a cluster with the foliage rising abundantly above them. Press the surface soil to about the depth of one finger joint — when it feels dry and crumbly it is time to water, on average once or twice a week, and empty any water that collects in the saucer. Its home is subtropical, so it is very sensitive to cold: below about 13°C it can take cold damage. Keep it in the room rather than by a window.

Sending a plant to a Korean business

Potted foliage plants are the usual gift when a shop, office or clinic opens in Korea. They are placed by the entrance or the reception desk and stay there — the gift is meant to last rather than to be admired for a day.

A ribbon carrying your name and the occasion phrase is attached to the pot.

Delivered anywhere in South Korea within three hours, and we send you a photograph of the plant in place once it arrives. If the pot or plant size shown is unavailable on the day, we substitute the closest equivalent and tell you before we deliver.
