A Japanese black pine bonsai, the trunk twisting as it leans away to the right, branches reaching out to either side.
From the base the trunk coils once on itself and travels off to the right, and the branches part left and right along that line. Each tip holds a bundle of bright green needles, which makes the sideways outline easy to read.
The vessel is a round celadon piece with a jade cast to it, full at the shoulder, standing on a patterned foot. Moss covers the compost.
It is a tree to keep close — on a desk or a shelf, where it can be looked at properly. Bonsai is grown small in a shallow tray and kept for years; in Korea it is sent for a business opening, a promotion or a retirement.

Openings, promotions, retirements — occasions where the gift is meant to stay. It sits in an office or a shop for years rather than weeks.
Light and water are the whole of it. A bright spot, and a thorough watering when the surface dries.
Until we start making it up, yes — message us on the live chat with your order number and we will change or cancel it and refund you in full. Once the florist has started, we can no longer change it.
A small pine whose trunk and branches have been wired into a winding line, turning back on themselves more than once. The branches reach out to left and right well past the width of the pot, and the needles gather only at their ends. Planted in a round celadon pot on a moulded foot, so the green of the tree and the blue-green of the pot sit side by side. The pot is small enough for a desk or a shelf.
A bonsai is sent in Korea when the occasion calls for weight. A promotion, a move to a higher post, the taking up of an office — moments where the sender wants to mark someone’s standing formally. Among potted gifts it is the one that carries the most standing of its own.
The tree was shaped over years before it reached us, and that time is part of what is being given. It is kept where visitors see it, and it stays for years rather than weeks.
A ribbon carrying your name and the occasion phrase is attached to the pot.
