A pine bonsai, the trunk upright and the branches opening out in tiers.
The roots divide and show at the base, and the trunk twists slightly as it rises straight. The branches shorten from the bottom upwards into something near a triangle, each tier holding a rounded mass of dark needles.
The vessel is a low square pot under a navy glaze. White gravel covers the compost, with moss banked to one side, so the roots look as though they are standing on open ground.
The tiers are distinct and the tree has a clear front, which suits a reception room or a director's office. Bonsai is a tree grown small in a shallow tray; in Korea it is sent to mark a turning point — a business opening, a promotion, a retirement — and kept for years afterwards.

Openings, promotions, retirements — occasions where the gift is meant to stay. It sits in an office or a shop for years rather than weeks.
Light and water are the whole of it. A bright spot, and a thorough watering when the surface dries.
Until we start making it up, yes — message us on the live chat with your order number and we will change or cancel it and refund you in full. Once the florist has started, we can no longer change it.
The trunk rises upright and the branches are worked into flat pads at several heights, each one clear of the one below it, so the tree reads as a series of layers. The roots spread out over the soil at the base and mounds of green moss are set around them with grit between. Planted in a rectangular pot glazed deep blue.
A bonsai is sent in Korea when the occasion calls for weight. A promotion, a move to a higher post, the taking up of an office — moments where the sender wants to mark someone’s standing formally. Among potted gifts it is the one that carries the most standing of its own.
The tree was shaped over years before it reached us, and that time is part of what is being given. It is kept where visitors see it, and it stays for years rather than weeks.
A ribbon carrying your name and the occasion phrase is attached to the pot.
