A Japanese black pine bonsai, heavy at the base, with the branches spread wide above.
The base and the exposed roots knot together into a rough, uneven mass, and out of it the trunk rises only a little way before dividing. The branches run out long to either side, so the whole outline is close to a wide half-circle, and long fine needles hang at every tip.
The vessel is an unglazed brown oval pot on a black wooden stand. The compost is finished plainly, covered with nothing but fine grit.
There is real weight in that base. Bonsai is a tree grown small in a shallow tray and kept for years, and in Korea a pot like this is sent where service is being acknowledged — the opening of a business, a retirement, or a promotion.

Openings, promotions, retirements — occasions where the gift is meant to stay. It sits in an office or a shop for years rather than weeks.
Light and water are the whole of it. A bright spot, and a thorough watering when the surface dries.
Until we start making it up, yes — message us on the live chat with your order number and we will change or cancel it and refund you in full. Once the florist has started, we can no longer change it.
A thick trunk, its bark broken into heavy plates, rises a short way and then divides, with the branches reaching out far wider than the pot. The needles are long and fall in soft curtains from the ends of the branches. The soil is covered with coarse grit. Planted in an oval brown pot and set on a dark wooden stand.
A bonsai is sent in Korea when the occasion calls for weight. A promotion, a move to a higher post, the taking up of an office — moments where the sender wants to mark someone’s standing formally. Among potted gifts it is the one that carries the most standing of its own.
The tree was shaped over years before it reached us, and that time is part of what is being given. It is kept where visitors see it, and it stays for years rather than weeks.
A ribbon carrying your name and the occasion phrase is attached to the pot.
